Cocopeat Coin is a small disc made up entirely of coconut coir to expand into the soft, root-friendly growing medium as soon as it is hydrated. The cocopeat coin starts off dry and hard like a small disc in a shape that makes it easy to pack, stack, and ship economically, which is why cocopeat coins have become popular in the starter kit and nursery industry.
The real change happens when the water comes in contact with the coin. In just a few minutes, the dry coin absorbs the water and becomes a wet fibrous block that is light enough for tender seedlings to push through but still holds its shape in a tray or a pot. The fact that cocopeat coin is able to retain moisture while still being structured allows it to fulfill its main purpose — to keep the right balance of moisture and aeration that frequently leads to seedlings’ failure.
One of the main advantages of cocopeat coin is that it is made entirely from coconut coir and is therefore biodegradable — the coin can go to compost along with the seedling after transplanting.
